ENERGY MARSHAL
Location: Europe (Project Site Based)
About the Role
CommX is looking for a dedicated and safety-focused Energy Marshal to support the safe delivery of major data centre and mission-critical projects across Europe. This role is responsible for overseeing hazardous energy management throughout construction and commissioning, ensuring all energy sources are isolated, controlled, verified, and safely managed in accordance with company procedures and industry best practices.
Working closely with commissioning managers, engineers, contractors, and client representatives, you will coordinate lockout/tagout (LOTO) activities, manage energy isolation procedures, and verify that systems are safe for commissioning, testing, and energisation. Your role will be critical in maintaining the highest standards of safety while supporting the successful delivery of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Manage hazardous energy control throughout construction and commissioning activities.
Coordinate lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure all energy isolations are implemented correctly.
Develop, review, and maintain energy isolation plans and permit documentation.
Verify system isolation, de-energisation, and safe conditions before commissioning and testing activities begin.
Coordinate the safe energisation and de energisation of electrical and mechanical systems.
Work closely with commissioning managers, contractors, and client representatives to ensure all hazardous energy activities are properly planned and communicated.
Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with project safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate records of energy isolations, permits, switching schedules, and commissioning documentation.
Participate in commissioning meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Identify potential risks associated with hazardous energy and implement appropriate control measures.
Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and final system handover activities.
Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all project activities.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience as an Energy Marshal, Authorised Person, Commissioning Engineer, or within a similar hazardous energy management role.
Strong understanding of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, energy isolation, and permit-to-work systems.
Experience working on data centres, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale industrial projects.
Good knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and associated commissioning activities.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
High level of attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
Ability to work within fast-paced construction and commissioning environments.
Relevant health and safety qualifications or electrical/mechanical certifications are advantageous.
